Farewell my lovely MacBook White

It's been six years when I first join the bandwagon of Apple user. It was when I bought my first MacBook and I am proud to call as a 'Mac User'. Since then, I am an avid user of all Apple product and I am very satisfy with all of them. That feeling mostly apply for my MacBook series.

I am happy to try several Apple products, especially MacBook from MacBook Air, MacBook Pro (aluminium body) and the latest one MacBook Pro with Retina Display. Yet, my MacBook White, which has plastic body, is the most favourite and loveable one. It was the most beautiful laptop in her time, I always proud to open it in public or even in my solitude moment.

Six years seems long enough and I believe my MacBook White still could serve even more. However, sometimes you need to let go something that so loveable to be in others' good hand. I rarely used her recently simply because her specification become less reliable given current progress in technology and overall features. Not to mention that I need the return on investment (yes, it is the money!) from using computing technology for my future work. Therefore, I decided to let go of this beautiful white MacBook to stay in a new owner.

I let go all of her follower and related support (read: accessories and peripherals). And, I know I deeply thankful for all six years services of her. Thank you and farewell my lovely MacBook White!

tribute for Steve Jobs (1955-2011)

You may love or hate him, but I believe the whole world pretty shocked to hear the news. Although this unfortunate event was already predicted due to his health condition, I could not know how to respond properly. There are mix feelings inside!

There is a sad feeling for sure. I admit, this is my fanboy spirit of Apple that appears in mind from my early interaction with Apple product several years ago. Steve is Apple and if you believe in Apple's product then you - directly or indirectly - also believe all Steve's vision about technology. Like many others had in mind, the next question is how the world of computing and digital will be without such a genius around to serve his outstanding ideas? We'll see...

On the other hand, I would like to celebrate Steve leaving by learning to what he had giving us. He is an entrepreneur, innovator and creator of the best computer company in the world which are producing lots of great products in the history. If you read his story, you will see a person that rarely appears in a century of human history. He may be remembered with other great inventors like Thomas Edison or a genius like Albert Einstein. Yet, he created his own history and leaving a significant mark in time as well as in many people live. It is hard to believe a stranger to Steve bowed their head in front of one of Apple Store in Beijing. We'll see... more simple yet humble tribute like this for Steve.

For me, he is my Gandhi in computer and digital world. Initially, I was quite reluctant to accept his idea since I was bounded quite long with a single type of technology. Yet, I bought his idea with a trial. Before I realized that I kind of a big fan of him, I had learn and still learning a lot about the way he think from a basket of Apples that - fortunately - I can get in many legit ways. Now, I may claim that I am not a fanboy. I just agree and believe with his way of thinking and faith.

I am nobody and not good at all to write a tribute for a great guy like Steve. Therefore, I would like to quote President Obama's tweet as follow:

The world has lost a visionary. And there may be no greater tribute to Steve's success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented.

Finally, farewell Steve! And thanks a million! I'll Think Different for the rest of my life...

Full screen di Word for Mac 2011

Ok, silahkan bilang saya 'gaptek'. Tapi, saya baru saja tahu kalau MS Word for Mac 2011 bisa View->Full Screen seperti ini. Bagi yang perlu menulis secara intensif dan konsentrasi lebih, menyembunyikan sementara toolbar, palette dan semua pernak-pernik editing menjadi sangat berguna. Tampilan full screen hanya memberikan button-button yang paling sering digunakan dan bisa disembunyikan secara otomatis setelah digunakan. Dengan latar belakang gelap (atau warna tertentu yang disukai), dan hanya menampilkan lembaran teks penuh (lihat contoh di foto) maka menulis menjadi sangat fokus. Bagi saya pribadi, ini sangat membantu tidak hanya dari sisi tampilan yang lebih sederhana melainkan juga memberikan tambahan ruang di lembaran teks dimana kita menulis.

Karena sudah cukup lama ganti ke Pages (dan fitur ini yang membuat saya menggunakan Pages), saya jadi alpa bahwa fitur Office for Mac semakin mendekati iWork (dan tetap lebih unggul karena Excel-nya yang tidak mampu dikejar oleh Numbers). Jadi penasaran, apa lagi fitur-fitur Office for Mac 2011 yang serupa dengan iWork?

Dibeli tahun 2005 pertengahan. Kondisi mulus. Dus (box) dan semua kelengkapan: manual book, etc. masih lengkap dan dalam kondisi sangat baik. Memori aslinya 256MB tapi sudah diupgrade jadi 512MB sewaktu membeli sebagai bonus. Kelemahan saat ini adalah baterai sudah drop, tidak optimal lagi - paling satu jam. Belum ada kelemahan, baterai masih bagus kinerjanya dan tidak bermasalah. Alasan dijual karena perlu yang lebih kecil, jadi ganti baru. Harga penawaran Rp. 6 juta, kalau berminat bisa tawar.

firefox 3... Awesome!

Great! That's my first word to describe the feature of Firefox 3. I've already start to enjoy Safari as my web browser in my MacBook, and that enjoyment become more complete after I installed the new Firefox.

I love the new look of it, since it has similarity with Safari that simple yet very functional. One thing that so far still evidence with Firefox - and that is my main reason to continue using Firefox in addition to Safari - is adequate speed to access website that makes me relief since in Indonesia the internet connection mostly uneventful and rather dull. And, I do not know how that Firefox (and Safari) could cope that issue while IE still struggling to open a single web page. Therefore, it is quite acceptable that Firefox claimed to be the fastest, leanest and most powerful browser ever. I couldn't agree more.

Another great thing is the optional local language. At my first download, I was directed to download Indonesia version Firefox 3. As I am not convenience with English-Indonesian translation, then I tried to find out the English version Firefox 3. And there I can see a lot of language option to be downloaded. That's really interesting, I guess. Among other advantage such as customization with add-on feature, great security and malware protection, as well as - my favorite - simple browser with possible modification based on your own need. For me, that is a single indication of "no contest" result.

I do not know how to make a good review, but I would like you to try this new piece of marvel. Please, try it!
