Quote of the day: non-violence vs permanent evil

I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is permanent.
by Mahatma Gandhi - Indian political and spiritual leader (1869 - 1948)

And that permanent evil could create stigma from others that if your group or follower conducting violence systematically (based on believe, for instance). So, do not blame us if those stigma undoubtedly difficult to be removed from our mind.

No yoga in Malaysia?

It is another silly policy by scared stiff Malaysian government. I am still wondering, why Malaysia is so afraid with other culture or religion? [Another related news with Indonesia perspective]

They are too afraid with Indonesian music and banned the music to be aired in their radio. Now, they are afraid that yoga could corrupt their religious practices so they also banned it. What a ridiculous mindset and coward. If their religion as good as they believe in, why should worry with other practices? Like Gandhi said, "A living faith cannot be manufactured by the rule of majority." No matter how hard they are trying to show their greatness, it makes them look "truly ugly".

Lesson learned from Malaysia is do not be afraid if you have true faith. What is faith if it is not translated into action? And Malaysia shows a clear example of faith that translated into discrimination and numerous petrified actions.

civil disobedience from Bali!

From The Jakarta Post
"With the passing of the porn bill on Thursday, we hereby declare that we cannot carry it out because it is not in line with Balinese philosophical and sociological values," (Made Mangku Pastika, Governor of Bali)
That is what I called Civil Disobedience, and it is really a great move from Bali. It could shows the power of "non-violence" movement. This is what we learned from the Great Mahatma Gandhi on how to keep our beloved country in unity and fight for it in a peaceful-non-violence way. And this is the best way as religious people.

Enough seeing and referring to "hardliner" groups with "God's name" behind them, but they keep brutally showing tortures, killing, violence in the name of peace and religion.

quote of the day: faith and majority

The following two quotes are from Mahatma Gandhi:

If the majority of the people are selfish and untrust-worthy, how can democracy work?
and
A living faith cannot be manufactured by the rule of majority

Indonesian mobocracy

Mahatma Gandhi once said,
"Democracy is an impossible thing until the power is shared by all, but let not democracy degenerate into mobocracy"
According to The Free Dictionary, the meaning of mobocracy is

mob·oc·ra·cy (mb-kr-s)
n. pl. mob·oc·ra·cies
1. Political control by a mob.
2. The mass of common people as the source of political control.
With so much street demonstrations in Indonesia, could we call the current political system in Indonesia as mobocracy?

You can find so many mobocrats from various political parties, religious group, even students, and undoubtedly the marginalized groups. We understand for the later group, they don't have channel to share their aspirations or problems since the government never hear or listen to them. But how about leaders from political parties, religions, and even the - supposed to be smart - scholars of students?? They should have ability to find better way then mobocracy...

And what is the outcome of this Indonesian mobocracy practices? Well, we can easily seen that in the form of street fights, violence, police arrests, and hundreds of casualties. Who cares?!
